About This Book

The book traces the rise and fall of Bhindranwale in Punjab during the years 1979-1985. The book describes in detail the build up to operation Blue Star in June 1984, which was followed by the tragic assassination of Mrs. Indira Gandhi. No one outside Punjab was aware until 1983 that despite the zest and gusto and material success, the Sikhs were such an agonised, crisis-ridden, spectre haunted community. Who raised the spectre and who aggravated the crisis? The book is an honest attempt to answer these questions. This is a translation of the Hindi book ‘Toofan Ke Daur Se Punjab’ which had its first edition published in September 1984 and the second edition in December 1984.
