The flight of the young sparrow

This is an account of the experiences of Trudi Spatz in the turbulent years before, during and after the Second World War. Brought up as a young girl in Nazi Germany, she and her family managed to escape to England in 1938 after her father fell foul of the authorities. Her memoir charts the family's struggle for survival and the many trials and tribulations they faced whilst trying to live as "free" citizens in wartime England.
