Salvo 4 - Black is A Matter of Taste. Theo Van Dusseldorp

In 2004, four members of Salvo began their education in photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Theo van Dusseldorp, a master of the medium's technical aspects, was their professor for several years. Although photography is traditionally considered a medium balancing art and technique, few publications explicitly show their mutual interaction. Here, the intimate relation that exists between art and technique, between advertisement and science, is articulated through a selection of the over 25,000 Polaroids Van Dusseldorp made between 1978 and 2001 as studies for his product photos. He recently gave them to Salvo, who were free to use them as they saw fit.
