About This Book

Vicente Martinez Espinel (1550-1624) Wrote this "picaresca" -or astute con man-novel with a lot of his own life in mind. Could be said he was telling on his life, at the same time preaching moral lessons learned. (This man led a very adventurous life). It is entertaining as well as edifying. Marcos de Obregón, just as Espinel, is not a "pícaro," but was very daring and dissipated in his youth, and describes himself so in this work. Also, he found himself a religious man "not in any way an angel, but a man."
I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
