The acclaimed novelist Yan Geling (Song of Everlasting Sorrow) exposes one of the saddest stories of Chinese newcomers to America. To realize their dream of staying in America, women would marry an older American man, a rich one with no children would even be better. They naively believe that once they get their green card, they could file for divorce and return to their previous life. Wanjiang is one such woman who conspired with her husband to carry out this scheme. The marriage fraud and its tragic consequence is a story that repeats in many Chinese women's lives.
