The book deals with the long journey of persistent and uninterrupted actions led by the Instituto de Arquitetos do Brasil (IAB), with the purpose of clarifying the avant-garde role played by the IAB, as a political-professional actor, with regards to its contributions, conducts, initiatives, and the spectrum of its conceptual influence, aimed at the formulation of new instruments that enabled the organization of the Brazilian inhabited space. The author circumscribes his analysis from the period that is understood in 1953, when the debates of the III Congresso Brasileiro de Arquitetos to 1988 with the enactment of the Nova Carta Constitucional Brasileira - the new Citizen Constitution.
