Design for an academic matching service

In 1965 the Association for Higher Education conducted a feasibility study on a computer-based system to match professors and administrators with jobs. The MATCH (Manpower And Talent Clearing House) study facilitated the establishment of NEA*SEARCH, a computer-based national program to assist in job placement of elementary and secondary teachers, counselors, and librarians. This report suggests two solutions to the problem of how to expand this type of system to higher education -- a bulletin of academic vacancies, and a computer-based matching service. It also surveys existing placement services and systems, the costs of expansion, and organizational control.
