About This Book

Autobiography of Gustav Gilbert (1846-1930), who immigrated in 1864 from Norway to Lansing, Iowa in 1864 (anglicizing his surname from Gilbrand to Gilbert), married Carrie (Kari) Eggen in 1868, and settled in Swan Lake, South Dakota, moving in 1879 to Parker, South Dakota. His father had immigrated in 1853 to Decorah, Iowa under the name of Gulbrand Gulbransen Aarnes--and the father and son never made contact. Descendants of Gustav Gilbert lived in South Dakota, California and elsewhere.
