About This Book
A marvelous story of two years in the Antarctic. A party of six, in their second year marooned with only six weeks of food. They dug a snow cave, killed some penguins and seals and survived eight months. Then weak they manhauled two sledges 230 miles back to Scott's main base. Well written by Priestley the geologist and only civilian in the six man party. this story was overshadowed by Scott's tragedy and the first world war. The original was not well distributed as the main warehouse was bombed and significant number of copies destroyed. Being war time it was not republished until 1974.
