About This Book

The author's memoir of life in London, England; Aleppo, Syria; and Jerusalem, Israel. Includes biographies of her grandparents and parents. Her paternal grandfather, Aram Assadour Altounyan (b. 1854), of Sivas province, Eastern Turkey, studied in England and the United States, eventually settling in Aleppo, Syria. He married Harriet Riddall of Armagh, Ireland in 1888. Their children lived in Syria and England. Her maternal grandfather, Gershom Collingwood, also born in 1854, came from Liverpool, England. He married Edith Mary Isaac of Maldon, Essex at Kensington in 1883. The author's parents, Ernest Altounyan and Dora Collingwood, met in England and married in 1915. The author's family, after living abroad, eventually settled in England.
