About This Book

Retrospective exhibition featuring monumental sculptures, public art, installation and canvas by abstract artist José Antonio, that express his accumulated experience in the rural areas of Brazil. The canvas, agricultural objects and symbolic totem sculptures that resemble primitive art were created from 1991 to 2004 and reveal his abstraction reductionism trend, a style where he combined tied, sewn, oxidized and pasted geometrical forms using common materials (fabric, paper, iron and wire). Includes his series Cathedrais Espaciais, large outdoor sculptures hanging from a tree over a lake.
