About This Book

47 original sketches by carioca architect Oscar Niemeyer (b. 1907) selected from the holdings of the Library of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the USP and that comprise the present exhibition. The drawings represent 4 different moments of his career: The early ones done in 1963, reflect the main concern of the architect with the pre-fabricated housing buildings. A second group presents a series of sketches for apartment buildings in Salvador (1983/1984), a third group was produced during an informal conversation in October 1995 in the FAU/USP and a fourth group includes the sketches he created in July of 1997, during an interview for the TV cultural program "Roda Viva", a series of designs of his projects sketched in a block in his lap: the Museu de Arte Contemporánea, the Caminho Niemeyer, (both in Niterói, 1991/2003) and others.
