About This Book

"In 1970, at a secondary school in Eastern Uganda, a school chaplain planted a seed in the heart of a student. He set him the task of translating Mark's Gospel into his mother tongue during the school holidays. The young Samuel, then just 17, had no idea what translation entailed, but accepted the assignment. Through that task, the seed germinated and grew into a dream, a dream of translating God's Word for his people, the Bagwere. In this exciting and enlightening book, the author tells how he pursued that dream by God's grace. In his own words, he describes the many challenges and setbacks: closed doors, imprisonment, death, war and tyranny. However, in spite of the obstacles and the disappointments along the way, 47 years later the undying dream has become a reality. This is the story of how the Bagwere came to have the New Testament in their own language, Lugwere. It is the author's prayer that many people may be transformed by meeting God in His Word, just as he was."--Back cover.
