Karolinska Institute was one of the beneficiaries of grants from the Rockefeller Foundation in the 1930s. The Institute received funding in the physical sciences to promote its chemistry department and medical grants to promote its physiological research. In this book, historian Olof Ljungstrom describes the conditions of experimental research at Karolinska Institute, especially its chemical and physiological institutions, for a period before funding by the Swedish government was established, when ideals and practices were largely unregulated and self-taught.
