The story of Red Squirrel, a half-breed Indian orphan whi is adopted by the old chief, Fox Eyes, of the Blackfoot Confederacy in Alberta, Canada. Upon the death of the old chief, Red Squirrel inherits his chieftaincy, but is challenged by Long Crane, also the son of a chief. The story is the struggle between Red Squirrel and Long Crane for the leadership of the Blackfoot Confederacy. The Mighty Council sets a series of tests for Red Squirrel to prove himself worthy.
