Las mezquitas de al-Andalus

The book provides an overview of the Andalusian mosques not only through the formal analysis of documented and archaeologically preserved buildings but also by studying the socio-political, cultural and religious context in which they were built. Given the relevance of the mosques in the Andalusian society, they are an essential historical document for the knowledge of al-Andalus and our Middle Ages. For this reason, the study pays special attention to the promoters of the buildings, the reasons and the economic conditions of the foundations as well as the different uses and functions added to these places of worship, all aspects which reveal the central role of mosques in the life of cities and rural areas.
