About This Book

Calcidius (c. 4th c. AD) was for centuries one of the few sources bringing Plato's philosophy to European intellectuals. In spite of his undoubted literary talent, he has been ignored by manuals of Latin literature; in spite of the original thought with which he brings together the essential elements of Middle Platonic philosophy, he is treated very briefly in most histories of ancient philosophy. This volume, containing the first translation into Spanish of Calcidius' edition of and commentary on Plato's Timaeus, is intended to reintroduce Calcidius' important contributions to literature and philosophy.
