The selections have been chosen mainly to address the areas of history, politics, and economics. This book is not intended to be exhaustive, but rather to present those speeches and proclamations that offer a general, yet precise vision of a particular time period. This is not a work of Haitian history; the goal of this book, rather, is to offer a synthesis of these themes, while presenting as much information as possible.
