Report of the Board of Directors and Superintendent of the State Hospital, Raleigh, N.C. for the two years ending November 30, 1904

Report expresses concern regarding adequate treatment of North Carolina's mentally ill population and lack of a policy regarding the treatment. Presents census data demonstrating the discrepancy between mentally ill people needing treatment and the hospital's current inadequacy in meeting those needs. The Superintendent reports significant patient data, work accomplished, upcoming plans, finances, and needs. Tables provide data about patient admissions and discharges, social status, diseases, occupation, place of origin, and other similar information, also appropriations and expenditures for 1903 and 1904 and the gardener's report. The engineer, carpenter, tinner, laundress, and matron also provide brief summaries about production in their departments.
