About This Book
In June 2009, as we announced the sale of the last remaining copies of the 2nd edition of The Datsun Roadster Book, we were approached by vendors and individuals alike asking us to reprint The Datsun Roadster Book to keep it available as a resource. There has never been as much information on the 1600 and 2000 roadsters in one publication!
We think this 3rd edition of the manual is better than the original OR the other two editions – which in our opinion (and others) were pretty good. It has been expanded and has typos and errors corrected. We’ve reduced the font size to keep the same amount of information in fewer pages to keep the selling price down. Even with the font reduction we've added more pages and information - go figure! We’ve added more pictures - many of them in color - and cleaned up some of the previous historical documents. We’ve added an entire new book – Part III !
A recent buyer sent us these comments:
"And I'm here to tell ya they look great! Road tests, racing articles, roadster ads from Japan, etc. Want to know exactly how the optional roll bar is supposed to mount? It's in there on page 124 of Volume III. And Scott's collection of analyses and service notes (which date back to the original Rising Sun Racing catalog) is still the best and most thorough reference I've ever found on our cars.
But the part I'm thrilled with the most (so far - still checking them out) is the translation of the Fairlady Vols I and II books. I've owned these beautiful hardcover books for years and always wished I could actually read the text, not just look at the pictures. Now I can! Did you know a Datsun 2000 finished 9th overall in the 1968 Monte Carlo Rallye?"
What this means to you is we’ve expanded the previous 2-part manual from 600+ pages to 3-parts and almost 900 pages of information – without a single, full blank page. We tried real hard to fill blank spots with illustrations, photos, or tips. In total, the entire manual now consists of over 189,000 words (in three volumes) – words that we wrote, with very few copied from someone else. We’ve also included some interesting historical information which we sprinkled throughout the pages. We’ve included Owner Manual reprints for all years from 1966-1970. We’ve located and included a number of foreign magazine articles and road tests for the 1500, 1600, and 2000 - many of which have never been printed in the U. S. before. As noted in previous editions, we have successfully filled the big blank spots that inevitably occur in these types of books so you get something informative to look at other than blank paper. We added so much additional information that we had to split it into three parts to make it more user-friendly. It doesn’t deviate into V6, V8, or turbo conversions, 4-wheel disc brakes, automatic transmissions or the like. If you want to learn about electronic ignition systems, optical sensor distributors, or late-model Nissan engine transplants you’ve come to the wrong place. We provide a lot of technical and Club links to help you find out all those modern changes. We talk a little about gas tank re-lining (having done it ourselves), synthetic oil, silicone brake fluid (which we've used for over 25years), and cryogenic treatment of parts for improved wear. If you want to know how to care for and maintain a Datsun roadster, regardless of what engine and gearbox you have installed, we have a ton of helpful information
