Introductory microbiology

Describes all major microbial groups, including viruses, and assumes no previous knowledge of the subject. There are chapters on microbial structure, growth, biochemistry, metabolism and genetics, and substantial additional chapters on eukaryotes, viruses and biotechnology. The text is supplemented by boxed items of special interest or application, and each chapter concludes with a useful summary for quick revision, an annotated list of further reading, and a varied an imaginative set of self-assessment questions, with answers given at the end of the book.
