About This Book

This book is the result of a series of lectures organized by the Commonwealth Human Ecology Council as a prelude to the United Nations Conference on Human Settlements, the HABITAT conference, which took place in Vancouver, Canada in 1976. The lectures were given in London, England during 1974 and 1975. The lectures published here represent the views of a variety of speakers all concerned with the interdisciplinary study of human environment problems. They bring together the results of past and present work on five continents. They demonstrate the value of the kind of broadly based attack which is essential to mastering the enormous problems resulting from the impact of modern scientific civilization upon the human environment.
