About This Book

Rock carvings of Lake Kanozero on the Kola Peninsula represent a unique historical and artistic assemblage dating to the 4th-2nd millenia BC. It is one of the most significant archaeological sites in northernmost Europe. The first carvings were discovered in 1997, and over 1200 figures have been recorded since then. The dominant theme of the Kanozero rock carvings is whale hunting using harpoons and boats. The book is the first detailed publication of the Kanozero petroglyphs.
