Nature and extent of environmental crime in Kenya

An environmental crime can be defined as a grave act against the environment that results in the infringement of the right of citizens to a clean and healthy environment. This monograph deals with the nature and extent of environmental crime in Kenya, with its core objective to enhance human security by improving regional law enforcement and policymaking to fight environmental crime in eastern Africa. Environmental crimes present a key challenge to Kenya, which depends largely on its natural resources base especially for tourism and agriculture. Environmental crime thus hit at the very core of the economy and should be addressed by rallying and coordinating all relevant agencies. Fighting environmental crimes is crucial to the realisation of Vision 2030, especially because they impact on people's livelihoods, poverty and human security.
