About This Book

Shadrach & Hopey Rogers settled in GeorgeTown District of South Carolina in the 1780's; we have documented proof of our Shadrach having a wife “Hopey” and their migrating to Covington County. He and his offspring all moved out of South Carolina and headed West in the early 1800's. Two sons headed their wagons to Louisiana as soon as the lands opened up there. Shadrach and his family moved into what is now Covington County, Mississippi. Some of the allied families moved into Georgia, Alabama, and other parts of Mississippi. Soon, some of the Mississippi family members got itchy feet and scattered into Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas; other Mississippians heard of great opportunities in Louisiana and headed off in that direction. This book covers all family branches.

Depending on the family branch, their last name was spelled Rogers or Rodgers, and sometimes both. Over 1,600 family members are recorded with a total of over 350 family surnames. Allied families include ... Ainsworth, Barfield, Biglane, Bradford, Buchanan, Carr, Craft, Doughty, Duckworth, Haralson, Hinton, Keyes, Keys, Knighton, Pickering, Powers, Rawls, Sample, Scott, Speed, Spell, Sunlin, Taylor, Thames, Thompson, Wagner, Welch, West, and Williamson.

This material is not just a listing of names... it includes data researched over the past 25 years: census records, land records, deeds, military records, and wills plus a few family anecdotes along the way.
