About This Book

Exhibition that corresponds to the abstract period of artist José Gamarra (b. Uruguay 1934, lives in Paris since 1963). Gamarra lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1960 and in 1963 moved to Paris. The artist describes his creative process during that decade as "One could say that I borrowed from Abstract art the freedom to play with matter and the signs that serve as a support for what I wanted to transmit. These were invented signs, but they have reminiscences of the ancient cultures of these lands"--Page 5.
