About This Book
The author of this book takes the view that the "Apocalypse" in the New Testament provides the standard for apocalytic literature in the entire Bible. Using this standard, R. Alexander provides the following definition:
"Apocalyptic literature is symbolic visionary prophetic literature, composed during oppressive conditions, consisting of visions whose events are recorded exactly as seen by the author and explained through a divine interpreter, and whose theological content is primarily ecchatological." In the Old Testament, the following passages meet this criteria:
Eze. 37:1-14; 40-48, Dan. 7-12, Zech. 1:7-6:8.
