"The 1990s were a particularly fruitful decade for architecture in Great Britain. A generation of notable young architects emerged whose creativity and dynamism rapidly gained recognition. These young practioners, often grappling with the potent legacy of modernism, opened the way for modern architecture to engage in a meaningful dialogue with existing urban fabric - a process of particular importance in run-down inner cities. Other concerns were the evolution of architectures as a discipline, how the traditional topologies of form and function might develop, or how art and architecture are related. Their governing underlying theme is the question how architecture can mediate between given environments and the aspirations of people and organisations who use them.
