About This Book

Olof Selling was the head of the palaeobotanic department at the Museum of Natural History in the 1950s. In order to remove Selling from his leadership position, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences tried to paint him as mentally unfit. This later came to be described as one of the great law scandals of the 1950s, and it ended with the forced resignation of Justice Minister Herman Zetterberg in 1957. The Natural History Museum has deep roots in the history of Swedish science. When the museum celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016, it was natural to dig deep into its archives to explore whether the history of the National Museum could provide a new angle on the development of Swedish society and science in the 20th century. --
