Narcisia

Juana Castro's Narcisia is an attempt to rescue the myth of the ancient goddess. Narcisia gives birth to herself, and becomes a symbol of independence, energy and self-sufficiency. If within the mystic tradition the union with nature is one with God, in Castro's long poem, it is a spiritual union with the self that is sensual and erotic, as well as a positive, creative act that is far removed from the myth of Narcissus --
