About This Book

Contemporary Italian account of the attempt of the Duke of Northumberland to alter the succession on the death of Edward VI in favor of his family, compiled from the dispatches of Giovanni Michele, Venetian ambassador to England 1554-1557, and Federigo Badoaro, Venetian ambassador to Charles V; cf. C. Read, Bibliography of British history, Tudor period, 1485-1603, p. 575. Having sought unsuccessfully to have the succession pass to the heirs of Lady Jane Grey and his son, the Duke was executed by Mary I in 1553. Also included are accounts of Mary's marriage to Philip II of Spain, and the executions of Lady Jane Grey and the Duke of Northumberland.
