About This Book

Gothic City is a project on cultural/architectural heritage of the collective CG-XXVIII with the aim of recognizing and disseminating the characteristics of the ornamental elements of architectural styles in Chile of the late 19th and early 20th century (Gothic, neo-Gothic, Tudor, art Nouveau, art deco, et cetera). The project resulted in a traveling photographic exhibition and a photobook as an object of art. Through black and white photographs, "camera in hand, to discover the monsters: gargoyles, decorative motifs representing animals and chimeras; next to the giants: columns, Atlanteans and caryatids. We seek to leave evidence of what is doomed to disappear into the hands of evil so-called progress, which destroys the old, to create the new, but without the dialogue so necessary that it would help to maintain the legacy and identity of a Gothic city." (HKB Translation) --Verso Cover.
