About This Book

"A cultural resource survey, employing archival research and systematic archaeological sampling techniques, demonstrates that the 17.03 Parran/Murray subdivision contains significant prehistoric and historic occupations. Nine archaeological sites, including six previously recorded sites, were identified within the project boundaries. Several sites had multiple periods of occupation. These nine sites include six prehistoric components, eight historical components, and a segment of the Baltimore and Drum Point Railroad Bed. The prehistoric components range from the Middle Archaic to the Late Woodland periods. Analysis of the historic sites supports the findings of archival research that the project area contains a portion of St. Leonards Town. Identification and definition of the cultural resources of the Parran/Murray property allow an informed assessment of the proposed development impacts and provide the framework for recommending measures to mitigate possible disturbances to the archaeological record."--Abstract, page iii.
