About This Book

This book. written by one the period's most eminent legal scholars, contains a summary of laws relative to nineteenth-century French publishing (including books, newspapers, posters, pamphlets as well as the sale, publication and display of printed matter). It has particular importance for documenting the various articles of the July 29, 1881 Press Law that liberalized printing and publishing in France and includes subsequent modifications to the Press Law as well as violations and penalties for press infractions. The contents may sound a bit dry, but if you conduct research on any aspect of the history of printing in France at the end of the nineteenth century, then this reference work is invaluable.
