About This Book

I Keep Recalling is a translation of the Holocaust poems of Jacob Glatstein, generally considered one of the two or three greatest Yiddish poets of all time. Glatstein was the co-founder of the "In Zikh" (Introspectivist) school of Yiddish poetry, which sought to tap the poet's emotional response to the world and its events.

His Holocaust poems have been hailed as a major historical document and a literary achievement of the highest order; they gave voice to the anguish of both the victims in Europe and the helpless onlookers in America and elsewhere. This translation, by Dr. Barnett Zumoff, has itself been characterized as "a tour-de-force and a major contribution to Jewish culture."
