About This Book
For more than 30 years, the Château d'Annevoie and its gardens have been the subject of various researches which touch on the history and development of the property since its creation in the second half of the 18th century. At this time, Charles- Alexis de Montpellier, Lord of Annevoie and master of forges, designs a set of water gardens that exploit the potential of the Rouillon valley and the presence of springs. The supply network put in place provides the energy useful for the operation of its metallurgical factories while ensuring the impoundment of a series of basins and fountains with varied aesthetics, the supply network in place testifies of an extraordinary intelligence, true hydraulic genius in the service of an original and singular garden art. For seven generations, the Montpellier people have preserved this heritage while adapting the gardens to changing tastes and fashions. Endangered in the 2000s, the castle and gardens of Annevoie - classified as Monument and as Site - since 2017 have been the subject of a global restoration program by the private Foundation Domaine Historique du Château et des Jardins d? Annevoie. In this perspective, Nathalie de Harlez de Deulin carried out a very documented study which is based in particular on the iconographic sources preserved. It has two essential objectives: to constitute a complete archive of the documentation available on the history of gardens and to offer a precisely contextualized frame of reference.
