About This Book

Asinta: Mga Tula at Tudla ( Finalist, Poetry Category in the 2003 National Book Awards by the Manila Critics Circle ) is a book collaboration between poet Vim Nadera and visual artist Pinggot Zulueta published by the University of Santo Tomas Publishing House. With introductions by National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and book design by Albert Gamos. The book was launched at the Philippine Book Fair, SM Megamall, Manila, Philippines in September 2002.

Asinta: Images and Imageries is a collection of some 50 works on canvas paper and rendered in pen and ink, and watercolor through ink jet print technology.The artworks, consisting of drawings and photographs, are digitally processed images of events and themes that characterized the social, economic and political dimensions of the 80s towards the present. Most of the artworks have been previously published in national publications and have come to its present form through Digital Art.

The artworks chronicle the good and bad in Philippine society, the challenges and shortcomings that befell Filipinos, as a nation and as individuals, alternately. They showcase daunting images of poverty, human rights incursions, political upheavals, and protest of every kind. They highlight the famous and infamous, the common “tao” and shining personalities whose lives and acts have touched the fiber of society and redefined what “being Filipino” means today, in the national and global context.
