About This Book
Sérgio Wladimir Bernardes (Rio de Janeiro 1919-2002) is part of the second generation of Brazilian modernist architects who planned and operated aesthetic and spatial transformations in several Brazilian cities in the second half of the 20th century. In 1974 he created the Laboratório de Investigações Conceituais (Laboratory of Conceptual Investigations, L.I.C.), with the objective of developing studies and research on the most varied topics. The project Rio do Futuroʺ (Future Rio) published in 1965 in a special issue of Manchete Magazine at the time, the magazine of the largest circulation in Brazil comprised proposals from Bernardes for the urban planning of Rio de Janeiro. The project addressed topics such as politics, geopolitics, economics, education, tourism, science and technology in issues related to transportation, housing, urban integration, cultural and sports facilities. With preface by journalist Alfredo Sirkis, the present edition include the original drawings produced by Bernardes and his team for his original designs and texts.
