Excerpts from a text published by the Department of Commerce and Labor in 1906 on religious bodies which focuses on churches wholly or in part composed of black communicants. Part one consists of a summary and general tables, part two lists the history, description and statistics of separate denominations. Among the statistics compiled for each church include the number of members, the proportion of men and women, church edifices, Sunday schools, and the value of the church property and its indebtedness. It reports on 17 Christian sects wholly African-American and 26 church bodies African-American in part and is primarily interested in recording changes in the statistics since the census of 1890.
