This is the work of C.F. Beautemps-Beaupre as the hydrographer assigned to the French expedition sent to find information regarding the French explorer La Perouse, who was lost in 1788 in the southwest Pacific. Many of the charts found in this book are of the southwest Pacific region. His reliance on triangulation to obtain the correct orientation of land features is displayed throughout the charts.
