About This Book

To think about the Amazon is to come across a significant range of possibilities of points of view and, consequently, of relevant subjects to be studied. At the end of the 19th century, Santa Anna Anna Nery, in her book País das Amazonas, already referred to the region as being "poorer known than unknown," today this affirmation still persists, since much has already been studied, but the each day new objects arise, both culturally and specifically artistic. In this context, the present anthology of essays constitutes a panel of some of these possibilities of study regarding Amazonian issues, without, however, having the slightest claim to be reductionist, but rather to point to an over-text, even in production the authors of this publication. No wonder the number of essays was eight, to point symbolically to infinity in terms of research on the Amazon and, on a larger scale, on art and its multiple forms of cultural expression.
