About This Book

This book presents the first publication of Lapini's commentary on Cicero's Paradoxa. This commentary is significant for two reasons: first, because it served as a sounding board for Lapini, containing far more--and more insightful--interpretation than his famous commentary on Petrarch's Trionfi; second, because it places Lapini in a long line of interpreters of Cicero's works, revealing both the influence on Lapini of his predecessors and his reception by his successors. The appendix includes two other works by Lapini, his Lettera alla sorella (published here for the first time), and his Ad triumphum Cupidinis II (=III), 85-93.
