Professional codes of ethics

A review of the codes of ethics of various professions shows that the core of such codes is a collective pledge to place client interests ahead of personal interests. The codes explicitly promise to manage conflicts of interest. But the enunciation of professional responsibilities also carries a flavor of restricting entry into and restraining competition with a profession.
