About This Book
The work of Rafael Iglesia (1952-2015) has been widely disseminated. However, from the copious critical work devoted to his production, a scarcely explored field is selected here: its creative program. To approach it, we make use of the definition that Paul Valéry made of poetics as action that makes and that is present in the two movements that concur in equal measure in Iglesiaœs works: that of contradiction and error, and that of order and concentration. The purpose of the author is to unveil a poetic construction in Iglesias that, according to hypothesis of the author, is based on unexpected concordance between his trajectories of readings and his unprejudiced and random structural explorations "games with "maderitas" (small pieces of wood)", and it is reaffirmed in the writing of the memories of his works as a moment of reflection ex post. The primary sources were the built works, the published writings, a series of interviews with his collaborators and colleagues, a messy computer file retrieve from his computer and part of his library. Regarding the latter, we have paid special attention to the annotations on the margin and the underlining made by the architect which, as traces of his readings that allow recovering more accurate relations with his writings and projects. "Carlos Solari has developed, through the figure of Rafael Iglesia, a valuable document to the theory of architecture. He relies extensively on stories and the references of the architect relatives, but away from memorialisms and anecdotes. He reviews in detail [Iglesia] most significant works."
