In this book, Eric Nepomeuceno brings together past stories of three countries--Argentina, Chile and Uruguay--that have moved from being ruled by dictatorships to see democracy return. They are narratives about the trajectory of some remarkable characters, not because they are unique, but for rescuing examples of what happened in all the other nations that lived the same nightmare. Nepomeuceno shares the stories of Macarena Gelman, a Uruguayan, Marcia Scantlebury, a Chilean, and Estela de Carlotto, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel and Juan Cabandié, all Argentines. The collective memory represented in these stories shows that a country can only walk towards the future if it is able to know the truth of its past. Rescuing its memory brings justice.
