It all started when Mary MacKay was sent to the Republic of Seralippe as England's first lady ambassador; it was a most satisfactory climax to a brilliant Foreign Office career. But the seemingly staid Miss MacKay never expected to be the victim of a bizarre kidnapping that threatened to become an international incident.
