About This Book

Anyone traveling from Zutphen to Deventer along the western side of the IJssel passes a characteristic white building just after De Hoven. The high chimney makes it clear that there was at one time a kind of factory: The Steam laundry De IJsselstroom. That old laundry speaks to the imagination of many. This is evident from the countless pictures, paintings, drawings and poems made of and about this monument. And there are the stories. This book is evidence of that. The question arises as to why this building speaks to the imagination.
