Pedro Henríquez Ureña (1884-1946), the great Dominican humanist, is considered one of the most important scholars of the Spanish language, son of the Dominican poet Salomé Ureña and Francisco Henríquez y Carvajal, Dominican doctor, lawyer, writer and educator. Henríquez Ureña published Horas de estudio (1910), En la orilla de mi España (1922), La utopía de América (1925), Seis ensayos en busca de nuestra expresión (1928), La cultura y las letras coloniales de Santo Domingo (1936), y Corrientes literarias en la América Hispana (1941), among many other works.
