The marriage of the American poet, T S Eliot, to Bury-born Vivienne Haigh-Wood has been fairly well documented but this book tells the story of her family in detail for the first time, with emphasis on her father, Charles – a hugely successful Victorian artist whose painting still attain high prices at auction houses around the world. As well as telling Vivienne’s story it also details the life of her brother, Maurice, who helped the playwright Michael Hastings when he was carrying out research for his play, Tom and Viv. This biography documents a family as they live through the Victorian era right through to the present time.
