About This Book

Framed as conversations between a 15-year old girl and her grandfather (a bishop in the Episcopal Church), this is a history and explication of the significance of the service for Morning Prayer in the Book of Common Prayer as it existed in the late nineteenth century. There is no plot, but lightly connected episodic chapters that explore each segment of the liturgy of the Episcopal Church of that time. Modern sensibilities may find this to be heavy-handed Victorian piety but the historical value is not awful.
